In, on, under: „In“ = u, unutra: „The pens are in the pencil case.“ „On“ = na (na površini): „Your cup is on the desk.“, „a picture on the wall“. „Under“ = ispod: „The dog is under the table.“
Next to, near: „Next to“ = pored, odmah uz: „The bathroom is next to my bedroom.“ „Near“ = blizu, nije odmah uz, ali nije daleko: „We live near the sea.“
Between: „Between“ = između dve stvari ili osobe: „The sofa is between the two windows.“, „I sit between Ana and Mila.“ Uz „between“ obično ide „and“ (between A and B), a može i „between the two …“.
Behind, in front of, opposite: „Behind“ = iza: „The garden is behind the house.“ „In front of“ = ispred (tri reči): „There's a bench in front of the school.“ „Opposite“ = preko puta, sa druge strane ulice ili sobe: „The bank is opposite the post office.“
Where is …?: Kad pitamo gde je nešto: „Where is my jacket?“ — „It's on the chair.“, „Where are the scissors?“ — „They're in the drawer.“ U odgovoru stvar zamenjujemo sa „it“ (jednina) ili „they“ (množina). Skraćeno: where's = where is, it's = it is, they're = they are.
Red reči i član: Predlog stoji ispred imenice, a uz imenicu najčešće ide „the“ ili prisvojni pridev: „under the bed“, „in my bag“, „next to our school“. Ne kaže se „under bed“.
