There is / there are — kako da kažeš šta ima u tvom gradu?
There is (there's) uz jedninu i there are uz množinu; odrični oblik (there isn't a…, there aren't any…); pitanja Is there…? Are there any…? i kratki odgovori; razlika there is i it is; red reči: najčešće prvo šta postoji, pa gde.

- There is — jednina
- Kad kažemo da nešto postoji ili se negde nalazi, koristimo „there is“ uz jednu stvar: „There is a castle in our town.“ (U našem gradu postoji dvorac.), „There's a map on the wall.“ Uz jednu stvar ide „a“ ili „an“. Skraćeno: „there's“.
- There are — množina
- Uz više stvari koristimo „there are“: „There are two parks near my school.“, „There are some old houses in this street.“ Uz množinu stoji broj ili „some“ (nekoliko). „There are“ se u pisanju obično ne skraćuje.
- Odrični oblik
- Jednina: „There isn't a …“, množina: „There aren't any …“: „There isn't a cinema in our village.“, „There aren't any cafés near the station.“ U odričnom obliku množine umesto „some“ ide „any“. Može i sa „no“: „There is no cinema here.“
- Pitanja i kratki odgovori
- „Is“ ili „are“ ide ispred „there“: „Is there a lift in this building?“ — „Yes, there is.“ / „No, there isn't.“, „Are there any toilets here?“ — „Yes, there are.“ / „No, there aren't.“ I u pitanjima uz množinu obično ide „any“. U potvrdnom kratkom odgovoru se ne skraćuje: „Yes, there is.“, a ne „Yes, there's.“
- There is ili it is?
- „There is“ uvodi nešto novo (ima, postoji), a „it is“ govori o nečemu što smo već pomenuli: „There's a park near my flat. It's very big.“ (Blizu mog stana ima park. Veoma je veliki.)
- Red reči
- Najčešće prvo kažemo šta postoji, pa gde: „There is a lake near our town.“ (Blizu našeg grada je jezero.) Može i obrnuto, ali „there“ ostaje: „Near our town there is a lake.“ Nikad se ne kaže „In our town is a lake.“
