Ponavljanje: past simple i past continuous — kako da ispričaš priču?
Ponavljanje i proširenje: past continuous za scenu i radnju u toku, past simple za događaje jedan za drugim; when i while (radnja u toku i prekid); when kad se jedno desi posle drugog (When the bell rang, we went out.); dve radnje u toku istovremeno; reči za redosled u priči (first, then, after that, suddenly, in the end); pitanja u oba vremena.

- Scena i događaji
- Priču počinjemo opisom scene u past continuous: „The market was full of people, and a man was selling balloons.“ Događaje koji slede jedan za drugim pričamo u past simple: „I locked the door, turned on the light and sat down.“
- When i while — prekid
- Duža radnja u toku (past continuous) i kratka koja je prekida (past simple): „I was tying my shoes when the bus arrived.“, „While Mila was skating, she lost a glove.“
- When — jedno posle drugog
- Kad su obe radnje kratke, obe su u past simple i druga dolazi posle prve: „When the game ended, everyone cheered.“ Uporedi: „When the game ended, we were still sitting on the floor.“ (sedeli smo i pre toga).
- Dve radnje u toku
- „While Grandpa was fixing the fence, I was holding the ladder.“ — obe radnje su trajale u isto vreme.
- Reči za redosled
- first, then, after that, suddenly, in the end: „First we packed, then we drove to the lake. Suddenly a storm started. In the end we slept in the car.“
- Pitanja
- „Who were you talking to when I called?“ — „To my cousin.“ (past continuous: was / were), „How did you get home?“ — „By tram.“ (past simple: did).
